Birthday Cake for Two is perfect for celebrating with your someone special and super easy to make with the Duncan Hines Easy Cake Kit. (Previously called Duncan Hines Perfect Size mix.)
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Duncan Hines for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
Something rare happened recently. My husband and I had a date night. The children were both on a sleepover, so it was just the two of us. It was also his birthday, so I wanted to make a little cake for our intimate celebration. I used a new Duncan Hines cake mix called Perfect Size (update: now called Easy Cake Kit as of 4-9-2020). It includes everything you need to make a small, six-inch cake. It even comes with a little disposable 6-inch pan to bake the cake in. It's the perfect sized cake for two (not ten).
UPDATE: This product is now called DUNCAN HINES Easy Cake Kit (as of April 9, 2020)
The DUNCAN HINES Easy Cake Kit is available in 8 deliciously indulgent flavors: Chocolate Lover’s (chocolate cake with chocolate frosting), Red Velvet Dream (red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting), Strawberries and Crème (strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting), Golden Fudge (golden cake with chocolate frosting), Coffee Cake, Cheesecake, Double Fudge Brownie and Chocolate Chip Cookie.
Where to Find the Easy Cake Kit
You can find Duncan Hines Perfect Size (now called Easy Cake Kit) in your grocer's aisle. Please note: The Lemon Bliss flavor pictured above is no longer available.
My husband's all time favorite cake flavor is golden cake with chocolate frosting, so of course I had to choose the Golden Fudge flavor for him. It's so convenient having a pan right in the box. It also contains the cake mix and the frosting mix.
The cake mix was super easy to put together. I just added an egg, ¼ cup of water and half a stick of softened butter. After beating it with the electric mixer for 3 minutes, I poured it into the ungreased mini pan.
I baked the cake for 38 minutes at 350°F. I knew it was done after sticking a toothpick in the center and having it come out clean.
Then I whipped up the frosting by beating a half stick of softened butter and adding the contents of the frosting packet and a teaspoon of water. The frosting is so incredibly delicious. It was hard to not eat it right out of the bowl. But alas, it needed to go on the cake. I reserved about ⅓ cup of the frosting for the decoration, then frosted the cake with the rest.
Since it was a birthday celebration I wanted to make it a little extra special. I put the reserved frosting into a pastry bag fitted with a #16 pastry tip, then piped a border around the top and sides of the cake. Sprinkles made it even more festive!
My husband loved his Birthday Cake for Two! It was not only the perfect size, but it was super yummy. We can't wait to try all the Duncan Hines Perfect Size cake mix flavors!
