Easy Homemade Apple Turnover Recipe

If you love fresh apple pie and you need something quick and simple, make this easy homemade apple turnover recipe.

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Prepare a large baking sheet and line it with parchment paper.
  • On four 2 by 4 inch spots of the parchment-lined baking sheet drizzle about two tablespoons of honey (as shown in the picture). 
  • Place about 5-8 slices on top of the drizzled honey (depending on how big your apple slices are). Drizzle more honey on top of the apple slices then add your cinnamon. 
  • Using a pizza cutter, divide puff pastry sheets into 4 rectangles and lay each one on top of the honey/apple mixture. Seal the edges with a fork onto the parchment paper and gently press on the apples to make sure they stay together. 
  • With a pastry brush rub your pastry crust with the egg wash then bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown. 
  • After baking, let cool and then flip over the flaky pastry with a spatula. Top with lots of powdered sugar and ground cinnamon. Finally on top of each turnover put a nice-sized scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!

Notes

How do I store leftover apple turnovers? Store in an airtight container for up to a week in the fridge or for a few days at room temperature. You can also wrap each one in plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
Can I freeze these pastries? Yes, after baking and cooling, wrap them individually in aluminum foil and freeze for up to a month. When you want to eat them, do not let them thaw, just bake them according to the instructions on the puff pastry box you used and they may need an extra few minutes in the oven until ready to eat. (May not be as crispy/fresh when frozen).
