Hi there. My name is Kelly, a new excited follower! My momma passed away when I was 8 of Cervical Cancer when she was 32 in 1978. My dad was a Navy Seal & continued the task of raising 2 daughters. He is 75 now & recently moved to my home from 4 hours away because he needs a little extra help these days & certainly lots of TLC.
My dad raised me & did the motherly & fatherly things all little girls, teenagers (most 😉 some thing’s I learned from my female friends , & young adult girls needed, including teaching me how to cook & bake,
Your post on “75 Reasons Why I Love My Mom” is precious & so sincere. It reminded me of so many reasons why I love my dad. He is all those things my mom was & then continued on after her passing.
I just wanted to tell you thank you for sharing this post. It is the epitome of WHY we should be grateful for our parents, no matter who raised us.
My momma was a beautiful woman who in my short 8 years of having her in my life instilled many things in me that at the time I didn’t realize would be so influential & special to me...her never ending strength, her unfathomable bravery (even on her death bed she’d brush my long hair over & over b/c that was our thing), her passion for animals, her crafting talents, her commitment to community/support groups on various Naval Bases, her dedication towards a life of being a Navy spouse, a school volunteer, her ability to see the good in all, her love of sewing-especially dresses for my sister & me, her radiant smile, her eclectic taste in music, & ever changing hair colors, how she always dressed so pretty & classy, her love of travel & reminding me that traveling is the best education, her talent in gardening & tons of houseplants, how she invited all the kids over for her yummy snacks, planned the best birthday parties for ‘her girls’, how she always wrote Thank You notes, cards to uplift, sympathize, & celebrate people, her gentle spirit, her feisty spirit...I could go on & on.
Not having her growing up was hard-> my 1st broken heart, (DAD WANTED NO BOYS & would run them off in HS), Proms, HS Graduation, College Graduation, marriage planning, the births of my children, them not having the doting Grandmother I know she would have been, trying to figure out motherhood along the way, {THAT WAS/IS THE HARDEST PART}, but my dad always was unscathed & there for us despite his own broken heart of losing his One & Only true love.
I was never bitter but did grow up with a fear of abandonment.
My dad promised her he would always be there for me & he was.
I have my own 2 children....my son is now 22, served in the USAF for 4 years, & my daughter is 18. She’s about to leave for college. They are simply amazing young adults.
I’m rambling & I’m sorry for typos b/c I type this with eyes raining with tears.
Goodness, after all that from me, a stranger, I just want to thank you again for your post. As you can tell it got to me. I think people need to know when they touch others, often without realizing it. Your post did that.
I love to bake (thanks to my mom I didn’t get enough time with, & my dad who wasn’t afraid to be creative in the kitchen.
I look forward to your BLOG & Instagram inspiration.
Respectfully,
Kelly from N.C.
