Halloween Ice Cream Dirt Cups - layers of chocolate ice cream, crushed chocolate sandwich cookies and gummy worms, plus a peanut butter cookie tombstone on top - perfect for a Halloween party!
These Halloween Dirt Cups are SO EASY to make using your favorite chocolate ice cream instead of the traditional pudding dirt cup. The kids will love these and they can help make them too!
Kids love Halloween Ice Cream Dirt Cups
Perfect for a Halloween party, you can make these adorable Halloween Ice Cream Dirt Cups ahead of time and store them in the freezer until it's party time.
For this recipe, I used crushed OREO cookies for the "dirt". Then layered it with chocolate ice cream and gummy worms. If you're making them for a party, you might also like these Halloween Spider Donuts that are also super simple to make.
How to make Halloween OREO Dirt Cups
First you scoop chocolate ice cream into a medium glass. Add a small handful of crushed OREO cookies and a couple of gummy worms. Repeat these steps a second time. Then top with a peanut butter cookie "tombstone" (I used Nutter Butter cookies).
You can make them ahead of time if they are for a party. Store your Halloween Dirt Cups in the freezer until party time.
Making cookie tombstones for halloween dirt cups
Tip: You will need to make your cookie "tombstones" ahead of time. This way, they will be ready for your OREO Dirt Cups later.
Melt a ¼ cup of chocolate chips (according to package instructions) and pour into a pastry bag or sandwich bag. Cut a tiny corner and gently squeeze (or pipe) the lettering onto your peanut butter cookies. Pipe "RIP" or you can do three circles for a ghost face. Place on a tray to set (about 20 minutes), then they will be ready to put on top of your Halloween Ice Cream Dirt Cups.
What you'll need
Chocolate Ice Cream - use your favorite brand and let it thaw slightly before assembling your OREO dirt cups.
Chocolate Sandwich Cookies - such as OREO cookies, crushed in a plastic bag or food processor.
Peanut Butter Cookies - such as Nutter Butter cookies or any "tombstone" shaped cookie such as a Milano or Graham Cracker.
Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Pastry Bag or plastic sandwich bag
Drinking Glasses - use a 12 ounce glass or you could also use a clear plastic glass if you're making a lot of Halloween Dirt Cups for a party.

Halloween Ice Cream Dirt Cups
- 2 ⅔ cups chocolate ice cream
- 1 cup chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed I used OREO cookies
- 16 gummy worms
- 4 peanut butter sandwich cookies Such as Nutter Butters or any "tombstone shaped" cookie such as a Milano or Graham Cracker
- ¼ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Note: You will need four (12.5 ounce) drinking glasses to assemble these dirt cups. Or you can use clear plastic cups.
For the Cookie Tombstones
- Melt chocolate chips according to package instructions. (I placed the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and microwaved on high for 20 seconds. Stirred, then heated for another 20 seconds. Then stirred until completely smooth.) Pour into a pastry bag or ziptop bag. Cut a tiny corner and pipe the letters RIP onto the top of a Nutter Butter cookie. Repeat with at least 3 more cookies. Place on a tray to set. Note: You will have plenty of chocolate to decorate more cookies if you want to use them for a party or just to eat. Decorate some to look like ghosts, if desired.
For the Dirt Cups
- To assemble dirt cups, place ⅓ cup chocolate ice cream in glass. Add 2 tablespoons crushed OREO cookies and 2 gummy worms. Repeat with the same amounts of ice cream, cookie crumbs and gummy worms. Top with a cookie tombstone. Serve immediately or store in freezer until ready to serve (up to 3 days).
