What you need
Ingredient Notes
Butter: You will need softened, room temperature unsalted butter to make these cookies nice and rich in taste. Do not use melted butter.
Sugar: There are two kinds of sugar in these delicious cookies -granulated sugar and also light brown sugar.
Egg: Use 1 large egg to help bind the dough together well.
Vanilla extract: We recommend using pure vanilla extract for best results (not vanilla flavoring).
Blue Food Coloring: For the most vibrant color, use food coloring gel which is available at craft stores or online. We used Wilton brand.
Oreos: Get regular sized Oreo cookies for this recipe. You will be crushing some of them and keeping some of them whole.
Chocolate Chip Cookies: We used crushed Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies in this recipe.
Chocolate Chips: Use semi-sweet, dark chocolate or white chocolate chips (or combination of these).
Decoration: You can add candy eyes to decorate these blue monster cookies, if you wish.
How to make Easy Homemade Cookie Monster Cookies Recipe TikTok
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside. Chop 4 of the Oreos and the mini chocolate chip cookies, then set aside. (Leave 10 of the Oreos whole to stuff in the cookies.)
2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugars together until light and fluffy with an electric mixer (about 1-2 minutes). Mix in the egg, food coloring, and vanilla extract.
3. Add in the dry ingredients - flour, salt, and baking soda - and mix until just combined (don't over-mix). Fold in the chocolate chips, chopped Oreos, and chopped mini chocolate chip cookies.
4. Scoop 10 heaping tablespoons of cookie dough onto each baking sheet. They should be fairly big (these are monster sized cookies). Press a whole Oreo cookie slightly into the dough, then add more dough on top to cover the Oreo completely. The cookies will weigh around 3 oz once assembled.
5. Bake the cookies one tray at a time in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, until edges and top look set. Let cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to finish cooling.Use a sharp knife to cut them in half to reveal the Oreo cookie inside. Expert tips
• Do not overmix the dough because you will end up with tough, flat cookies.
• Add More Mix-Ins to this easy recipe! You can also add a half cup of white chocolate chips to this recipe, or increase the amount of cookies you stir in. It also looks really cute if you add some extra crushed cookies and chocolate chips to the top of the batter before baking.
• To Crush the Cookies, place in a zip-top plastic bag. Seal bag and gently pound with a rolling pin or can of soup.
• For added fun, add edible googly eyes to the dough just before baking.
• I recommend using royal blue gel food coloring from Wilton, it's what gives the cookies their vibrant blue hue.
