What you need
Ingredient Notes
• Refrigerated Can of Cinnamon Rolls - Make sure to buy the kind that you can unroll so you can reshape them into to adorable little bunny rolls. Some of the refrigerated cinnamon rolls are more like biscuits with cinnamon sugar on top. Don't get those. I used a can of Pillsbury Grands Cinnamon Rolls for this recipe. You can get any grocery store brand, but make sure that the dough unrolls. (This is VERY important so you can make the bunny ears!) Use two cans of cinnamon rolls if you want to double the recipe.
• Frosting - We used the included icing that came with the refrigerated cinnamon rolls. Easy peazy!
• Raisins - You only need 5 raisins for the bunny eyes. You could also use a chocolate chip for the eye, if you don't have raising.
• Sprinkles - White sprinkles look cute as the bunny tail. Or you could use coconut.
How to make bunny shaped cinnamon rolls
1) Buy a can of refrigerated cinnamon rolls (the kind that comes with the icing, I used Pillsbury Grands Cinnamon Rolls). Make sure they are the kind that you can unroll.
2) Line a baking pan with parchment paper or silicone mat. Or you can grease the pan instead. (I like using a half sheet pan because it has raised edges).
3) Carefully unwind each roll into a long strip of dough, fold in half and cut at the halfway mark. Roll up one half to be the body, place on prepared baking sheet. Then cut one third off of the remaining half strip of dough. Roll up the one third to be the tail and stick on body. Use a little water to stick the pieces of dough together. Take the remaining piece of dough and roll up halfway, then cut vertically down the part that's not rolled up, then fan out a bit to create the ears. Stick to bunny body on pan.
4) Bake at 350° for 13-16 minutes or until golden brown. Cook time varies depending on your oven. Let cool 5-10 minutes, then frost. We put the frosting that comes with the rolls into a small sandwich bag, cut the corner and piped on top of the rolls. Add a raisin eye and white sprinkles for the tail, if desired.
5) Makes 5 bunnies if you use Pillsbury Grands. Use 2 cans of Pillsbury Grands cinnamon rolls if you want to make 10 bunnies.
Expert Tips
• Sprinkle extra cinnamon on top of rolls before baking for extra flavor. Or you could sprinkle some apple pie spice instead.
• Remove the baking tray from the oven after the first five minutes of baking to carefully "reshape" the bunny ears if you need to.
• In a microwave safe small bowl, heat up the frosting that comes with the tube of cinnamon rolls for just a few seconds to make it easier to work with.
• Serving suggestion: For extra cuteness, serve your bunny cinnnamon rolls on a plate with some green colored coconut at the bottom to look like grass plus some berries (raspberries, blackberries or strawberries) to look like flowers.
• Store leftover bunny rolls in an airtight container. They will taste the best the first day.
• If you don't want to use the large cinnamon rolls, you can get the regular size. Just make sure they are the kind that will unroll.
Frequently asked Questions
• Do you grease the pan for Pillsbury cinnamon rolls? Yes, you can either grease the pan, spray with nonstick cooking spray or use parchment paper instead.
• Should these easy cinnamon rolls be baked on low or high heat? When it comes to baking cinnamon rolls, 350°F is the best. Because it's an enriched dough, an oven temperature that's too hot can cause the rolls to brown too quickly before they're fully baked.
• Should I brush cinnamon rolls with half and half before baking? You can use half and half to brush on if you want an even softer and more decadent cinnamon roll. This cream is not only delicious, but it will also add a silky texture to your rolls.
• What else can I use for the bunny eye? If you don't want to use a raisin, you can use an Easter colored M&M, chocolate chip, Jelly Bean, heart candies, or even some piped on colored frosting!
