Ingredient notes
Chocolate Chips - I used Hershey's Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips for this recipe just because they're easy to find in almost any grocery store in the U.S.
Sweetened Condensed Milk - Make sure you get sweetened condensed milk and NOT evaporated milk. They're completely different.
Butter - Use unsalted butter, softened or room temperature.
Chopped Nuts - The nuts are optional. If you like nuts, add your favorite. I think walnuts would be delicious. You could also use pecans or peanuts.
How to make this perfect fudge
- In heavy medium saucepan, over medium heat, melt semi-sweet chocolate chips and butter.
- Add sweetened condensed milk and salt. Stir until smooth. Do not overheat. Remove from heat as soon as it's melted. Stir in vanilla extract (and nuts, if using).
- Spread evenly into parchment paper lined 9-inch square pan or loaf pan. You can also line the pan with aluminum foil. Chill 3 hours or until firm.
- Turn fudge onto cutting board; peel off paper and cut into squares. Store tightly covered at room temperature or in refrigerator.
Expert Tips
• Make it in a loaf pan if you like thicker cubes of fudge.
• If you prefer a thinner slice, use a 9" x 9" square baking pan.
• To make it easier to remove the fudge when it's done, make sure to line the bottom of your pan with parchment paper.
• You can easily make this particular recipe into Rocky Road Fudge by adding chopped walnuts and mini marshmallows.
• If you're a fan of dark chocolate, you can substitute dark chocolate chips instead of semisweet chocolate chips.
